This Old Man

When I moved into the neighborhood years ago, I would see this man cooking on the grill, he would always say hi when I go walk my dogs and that would continue on for years. Anytime we would see each other we would wave hi, until the last few months, I didn’t see him or see his van move for work. About a month ago I saw his screen door hanging off the hinge of his place and I thought that was odd because I knew he was a handyman and he wouldn’t leave his screen door hanging like that.

One day I decided to walk to his place to see if he was alright until I saw a lockbox on his door and I knew that couldn’t be good sign.

About a week later I saw a sign for an estate sale pointing to his house, my heart sank because I knew the man who I saw for years had passed.

I decided to go the estate sale to see what he left behind, basically I was trying to find answers about this man. I couldn’t find much, he had old toy cars, he was constantly fixing his place, he loved Seinfeld because he had the entire series on dvd and this painting that someone made for him for his birthday. I asked the person who was running the estate sale what happened to the man that was living here and he said he doesn’t know so I asked him can I buy this painting and he said yeah sure.

I felt sad because I didn’t make an effort to get to know my neighbor or even know his first name. I don’t think he was married or had any family member still alive, I think I was more upset that he was alone when he passed.

Normally, I don’t write long blogs because I don’t articulate myself that well or theres a lot of run-on sentences but that’s OK. No pun intended but I had to paint a picture about this artwork and where I got it from.

Hopefully one day I can find the person that painted this picture for my neighbor and find out more about him.

Small Paintings

Getting back into the small painting series. Here’s a few I created in the past week, they almost look like coasters. Maybe that’s another thing I should try. 🤔

4x4 Painting 🖼️

It was fun trying to paint on a 4” x 4“ canvas. I thought I would lose something painting this small, I think I was careful enough to get my point across by painting this small. Also, I was happy and surprised that I sold a few of these paintings last week.

Palette Knife Painting

I had an idea for a painting but it wasn’t translating as well as I thought it would. I might go back and try that idea again but I like what I came up with when I didn’t over think it.

Landscape 2024

I was trying to add some drywall mud material like I did with another painting I made last year but the material kept flaking off the canvas. Regardless of the mud flaking off the canvas, I’m glad how this painting turned out.

Another Painting

Another painting before the month is out, I’m trying something different from what I usually create. I wish I would of painted this before Christmas, I have to thank my sister for letting me paint over her old painting.

My sister’s original painting from 2015

New Painting of the new year!

First painting of the new year, basically I recycled an old painting I wasn’t digging and jazzed it up a bit. Debating if I should draw her facial features or leave it as is.

Update: I decided to add her facial features and fix her hair. I guess I got in my own head. 🤔😂

Updated Face (1-17-24)

No Facial Features (1-16-24)

Santa iPhone Drawing

First time I made a drawing of Santa, it was fun and completely different from what I usually draw. I tried to fine tune Santa on my iPad but it wasn’t coming out right so I decided to fine tune it on a small screen instead, oh well 🤷🏽‍♂️😂. Merry Christmas! Ho! Ho! Ho!

Arkham Painting, 10 years later

The only reason I updated this painting because my eye kept going to the negative space on the side of the original. Plus I wanted to see if I can fix it by using spray paint, surprisingly it worked out.

More Custom Koozies

I think this is the most koozies I made in a week, I have fourteen blank koozies and I made ten. I thought I was taking a long time because I was painting them instead of using a paint pen, paint pen are faster but makes the art on the koozies look duller. I might say I hate making them but deep down I think I enjoy creating custom koozies. I love seeing the end results.

Sunflower Guitar

I really liked how the guitar came out in the second image below. I think I overdid it by adding too much on the sunflower. I didn’t think nothing of it until I looked back at my progress, even though it looks unfinished, you still get the idea what I was aiming for. Still looks great but the potential on the unfinished image below.

I love You Bill 😢

Today fucking sucks! I would shave off 10 years of my life to give to you. I wasn’t expecting this, my heart really hurts. I love and miss you Bill, Sam, Max and Harley will welcome you with open arms. Until we meet again. 😢

Skeletor IPad Drawing

Haven’t drawn much on my iPad since I cracked my screen a while back and for some reason my stylus is a little wonky. Fixed the stylus, I think and drew out Skeletor from The New Adventures of He-Man. Feels good to draw on the iPad again.

Mammá Chepita 😢

I wish I had a picture of us together but this was the only one I can find of you. I wanted to take my mind off of things so I decided to restore this image of you and grandpa. I know we never had a great relationship because we weren’t fluent in each others languages and the last time I saw you was in 1997. I hope one day when we meet again, that we can embrace each other with open arms and have a great conversation that we both can understand. Until we meet again. 😢

Sunflower Painting

I don’t know why but I’m not digging my latest painting, something missing. Either more sunflowers or I should of painted just one sunflower.🤷🏽‍♂️

Flower 2023

I hope my nephew doesn’t get mad that I added on to his painting he did a few years back. It wasn’t bad but it need more detail.

Running Again

Not art related but this was the first time I did a long run since I injured my leg back in April. It was hard to rest, I would work out but no running. I tried in May but kept straining my calf muscle so I swore off running until last week. I ran my first mile last Monday and the day after that I did another mile. This past Sunday I had enough confidence to run a 5k, I ran but I was worried I was going to strain my leg again. Hopefully I can get to four straight miles by next week.
