The Chicago Marathon Virtual Run

What a strange year 2020 has brought us. When the Chicago Marathon was finally cancelled due to Covid, I told myself no matter what happens, I’m running the marathon. The second time running a marathon was a big wake up call for me because it hurt. I’ve done races where there wasn’t much of a crowd but when you run the Chicago Marathon you feel the energy, you feel the crowd of people cheering you on. I received a few text messages saying good luck, you can do it but it would’ve been nice to see that in person.

I was making good strides the second time around, I felt like I was going to beat my time from last year. That all changed when I got to the 15 mile marker, it felt like someone jumped out of the woods with a baseball bat and whacked me across the knees saying not today. I couldn’t run anymore I was in so much pain that I had to walk the rest of the way. I felt defeated but I kept telling myself I have to finish and it took me over six hours but I did it.
Now that I ran two different types of marathons, I know what to expect and I’m crazy enough to say this, I can’t wait to run another marathon next year. Thank you for all the love and support. 🙏🏼👍
